No final do século XIX, justamente no ano de nascimento da fotógrafa norte-americana Berenice Abbott (1898-1991), a marca francesa L. Gaumont & Cie lançava o seu modelo 2 da câmara Spido.
A história desta empresa tem início em 1895, com a aquisição da Comptoir Général de Photographie pelo seu, então, diretor, Léon Gaumont, contudo, passados quatro anos o seu nome muda para L. Gaumont & Cie. A sua produção baseava-se em equipamentos óticos e fotográficos, no entanto, foi ainda no século XIX que Gaumont se rendeu também à novidade da imagem em movimento, tendo produzido a sua primeira câmara de cinema, a Chrono, em 1896.
Em 1906, o nome da empresa volta a alterar-se, desta vez para Société des Etablissements Gaumont.
Esta câmara é uma jumelle monocular, com uma objetiva anastigmática f: 6.8/136mm de foco regulável e descentramentos verticais e horizontais.
Tem um carregador intermutável que permite a interposição de 12 chapas de vidro 9x12cm.
In the late 19th century, precisely in the year American photographer Berenice Abbott (1898-1991) was born, the French brand L. Gaumont & Cie launched its Spido model 2 camera.
The history of this company began in 1895, with the acquisition of Comptoir Général de Photographie by its then director, Léon Gaumont, but after four years its name changed to L. Gaumont & Cie. Its production was focused on optical and photographic equipment, however, still in the 19th century, Gaumont surrendered to the novelty of the moving image, producing his first film camera – the Chrono – in 1896.
In 1906, the company’s name changed again, this time to Société des Etablissements Gaumont.
This is a monocular jumelle camera, with an anastigmatic f: 6.8/136mm lens with adjustable focus, and vertical and horizontal decentering.
It has an interchangeable magazine for twelve 9x12cm glass plates.
