Michel Vanden Eeckhoudt (1947-2015) foi um fotógrafo belga contemporâneo. Em 1985, começou a trabalhar como fotojornalista no jornal parisiense “Libération”. Através da fotografia abordou questões sociais sobre a vida em áreas urbanas francesas desfavorecidas, as classes trabalhadoras e o funcionamento do sistema judicial retratando um contexto ainda pouco tratado na época, a imigração.
Michel Vanden Eeckhoudt tornou-se co-fundador da Agence Vu (agência de fotografia) desde a sua fundação em 1986, em Paris. Era um fotógrafo que tanto na abordagem fotojornalística como de fotografia de autor estava em contacto contínuo com a realidade. Um grande apreciador da técnica da fotografia a preto e branco, o fotógrafo belga tinha como particularidade evidenciar a estranheza mas também, a ironia e o humor nos seus registos fotográficos e desse modo, conseguia transformar registos instantâneos do quotidiano real em imagens muitas vezes enigmáticas.

Ao longo de sua carreira, o fotógrafo Michel Vanden Eeckhoudt demonstrou um grande interesse pela fotografia animal, em particular com os cães e a sua relação com o dono. Os registos fotográficos transmitiam emoção, ternura e humildade e tinha como intenção descrever a sua visão do mundo e a relação que pode existir entre o homem e o animal.

Michel Vanden Eeckhoudt (1947-2015) was a contemporary Belgian photographer. In 1985 he started working as a photojournalist at the Parisian newspaper “Libération”. Through photography he addressed social issues about life in deprived French urban areas, the working classes, and the workings of the judicial system, portraying a context still rather neglected at the time – immigration.
Michel Vanden Eeckhoudt became co-founder of Agence Vu (photo agency) since its foundation in 1986, in Paris. He was a photographer who was always in touch with reality, both as a photojournalist and as an artistic photographer. With a particular fondness for black and white photography, the Belgian photographer stood out for highlighting strangeness, but also irony and humour in his photographic records and, in this way, he was able to transform instantaneous shots of real daily life into images that were often enigmatic.

Throughout his career, the photographer Michel Vanden Eeckhoudt showed a great interest in animal photography, particularly dogs and their relationships with their owners. His photos conveyed emotion, tenderness and humility and were intended to describe his vision of the world and the relationship that can exist between man and animal.
