Flor Garduño nasceu em 1957 na cidade do México. Entre 1976 e 1978 estudou Artes Visuais na Academia de San Carlos (UNAM), na cidade do México. Durante os estudos participou num workshop de fotografia com a professora e fotojornalista húngara Kati Horna (1912-2000) onde a sua visão artística baseada na combinação entre o surrealismo e a fotografia documental influenciou as obras fotográficas de Flor Garduño. Em 1979, Flor Garduño começou a trabalhar durante três anos como assistente do fotógrafo mexicano Manuel Álvarez Bravo (1902-2002) onde aperfeiçoou as técnicas de impressão fotográfica. Em 1981, foi convidada a trabalhar na Secretaria de Educação Pública (México) sob a direção da fotógrafa mexicana Mariana Yampolsky (1925-2002) e no qual permitiu consolidar o seu estilo artístico inspirado na vida cultural dos povos indígenas e na paisagem do México. A fotógrafa através dos seus registos fotográficos também expressa os seus sentimentos e o encanto pela mitologia e pelo corpo feminino numa mistura perfeita de luz e sombra.
Flor Garduño já produziu cerca de sete livros de fotografia e recebeu vários prémios. O trabalho artístico da fotógrafa mexicana já foi exposto em mais de 40 museus de todo o mundo e encontra-se representado em várias coleções internacionais, privadas e públicas, como o Museu de Arte Moderna de Nova Iorque (MoMA), o Museu J. Paul Getty de Los Angeles, a Biblioteca Nacional de França, o Stiftung fur Fotografie de Zurique e o Centro Português de Fotografia.

Flor Garduño was born in 1957 in Mexico City. From 1976 to 1978 she studied visual arts at the Academy of San Carlos (UNAM) in Mexico City. During her studies she participated in a photography workshop with the Hungarian teacher and photojournalist Kati Horna (1912-2000), whose artistic vision, based on the combination of surrealism and documentary photography, influenced Flor Garduño’s photographic work. In 1979 Flor Garduño began working for three years as an assistant to Mexican photographer Manuel Álvarez Bravo (1902-2002), where she perfected photographic printing techniques. In 1981 she was invited to work in the Secretariat of Public Education of Mexico under the direction of the Mexican photographer Mariana Yampolsky (1925-2002), where she consolidated her artistic style inspired by the cultural life of indigenous peoples and the landscape of Mexico. The photographer expresses her feelings and her attraction to mythology and the female body in a perfect blend of light and shadow.
Flor Garduño produced about seven photography books and won several awards. The Mexican photographer’s artistic work has been exhibited in more than 40 museums around the world and is represented in several international, private and public collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the National Library of France, the Stiftung fur Fotografie in Zurich and the Portuguese Center of Photography.
