A descoberta do alumínio, em 1825, pelo químico dinamarquês Hans Christian Ørsted (1777-1851), marcou uma nova era na ciência e na indústria. Leve, resistente e maleável, este metal revolucionou diversas áreas, incluindo a aeronáutica, a construção e, também, a fotografia. Um exemplo notável da aplicação do alumínio são as célebres câmaras Minox, ícones de discrição e inovação.
Produzidas pela empresa alemã Minox, estas câmaras foram originalmente concebidas como ferramentas de espionagem durante a Guerra Fria. As Minox A, lançadas em 1948, foram as primeiras a utilizar uma construção em alumínio, garantindo leveza e durabilidade. Com um design elegante e compacto, podiam ser facilmente transportadas no bolso, ideais para capturar imagens de forma discreta.
Em 1958, surgiu a Minox B, que manteve a estrutura em alumínio e adicionou à fórmula de sucesso um fotómetro de selénio. Por sua vez, a Minox BL, introduzida em 1969, trouxe a inovação de um fotómetro de cádmio incorporado, mantendo o seu compromisso com a qualidade e a portabilidade.
The discovery of aluminium in 1825 by Danish chemist Hans Christian Ørsted (1777-1851) marked a new era in science and industry. Lightweight, strong, and malleable, this metal revolutionized various fields, including aeronautics, construction, and photography. One notable example of aluminium’s application is the famous Minox cameras, icons of discretion and innovation.
Produced by the German company Minox, these cameras were originally designed as espionage tools during the Cold War. The Minox A, launched in 1948, was the first to feature an aluminium construction, ensuring lightness and durability. With an elegant and compact design, it could be easily carried in a pocket, making it ideal for discreet photography. In 1958, the Minox B was introduced, maintaining its aluminium structure while adding a selenium light meter to its successful formula. Later, in 1969, the Minox BL brought the innovation of a built-in cadmium light meter, continuing the brand’s commitment to quality and portability. Just as Latino Coelho championed the value of knowledge and historical memory, this small camera became a powerful tool in shaping personal narratives during times of conflict, preserving the legacy of the generations who fought.
