Tintipia ou Ferrótipo

Embora inventado em meados do século XIX, o ferrótipo persistiu nas primeiras décadas do século XX, atendendo a que era um processo fotográfico bastante mais económico que os demais existente à época, para além da vantagem de apresentar um suporte resistente e duradouro.
Este exemplar, datado do período imediatamente anterior à Primeira Guerra Mundial, destaca-se pelo seu carácter experimental. A imagem capta a projeção circular da luz através de uma objetiva simples, revelando uma silhueta em contraluz. Os característicos cantos lascados e as manchas acastanhadas nas extremidades da folha de ferro resultam da oxidação natural do metal e do desgaste do verniz protetor ao longo do tempo.
Although invented in the mid-nineteenth century, the ferrotype remained in use during the early decades of the twentieth century, as it was considerably less expensive than other photographic processes available at the time. It also offered the advantage of a durable and resilient support.
Dating from the period immediately preceding the First World War, this example is notable for its experimental character. The image captures the circular projection of light through a simple lens, revealing a silhouetted figure in backlight. The characteristic chipped corners and brownish stains along the edges of the iron plate are the result of the natural oxidation of the metal and the gradual deterioration of the protective varnish over time.
