Tinha conhecimento que a fotógrafa Sabine Weiss é a última representante da fotografia humanista francesa?

Sabine Weiss (1924-), é uma fotógrafa suíça-francesa que aos 12 anos teve a sua primeira máquina fotográfica e influenciada pelo pai, começou a fotografar com 14 anos. Entre 1942 e 1945, fez a sua aprendizagem em fotografia com o fotógrafo suíço Paul Boissonnas, em Genebra (Suíça). Em 1946, Sabine Weiss mudou-se para Paris e tornou-se assistente do fotógrafo de moda alemão Willy Maywald (1907-1985) até 1950. Entre 1950 e 1952, tornou-se fotógrafa “freelancer” e colaborou com as revistas Vogue, Esquire, Life e Holiday. No ano seguinte, o fotógrafo francês Robert Doisneau (1912-1994) convidou-a para integrar a equipa da agência de fotografia humanista “Rapho” em Paris, designada posteriormente de Photo-Researches. A fotógrafa passou a colaborar com agências de publicidade e revistas importantes nos Estados Unidos da América e na Europa, na vertente do fotojornalismo, da fotografia de moda e de retratos de personalidades famosas da música, do cinema, da moda e da literatura e arte.

Paralelamente ao seu trabalho em agências, Sabine Weiss, adepta da fotografia humanista, sentimental, instantânea e dinâmica, recorreu ao registo fotográfico a preto e branco com forte dominância de luz e “jogo” de sombras para captar a emoção da pessoa em frente da máquina fotográfica assim como, registou com ternura o quotidiano de Paris no Pós Segunda Guerra Mundial.

Sabine Weiss (1924-) is a Swiss-French photographer who got her first camera when she was 12 years old and, encouraged by her father, began taking pictures at age 14. From 1942 to 1945, she did her apprenticeship in photography with Paul Boissonnas, in Geneva, Switzerland. In 1946, Sabine Weiss moved to Paris and became an assistant to the German fashion photographer Willy Maywald (1907-1985) until 1950. From 1950 to 1952, she launched herself as an independent photographer, working with magazines such as Vogue, Esquire, Life and Holiday. The following year, the French photographer Robert Doisneau (1912-1994) offered her a position at the Rapho agency in Paris, which specialized in humanist photography and later became known as Photo Researchers. The photographer collaborated with influential advertising agencies and magazines in the United States and Europe in the fields of photojournalism, fashion photography and portraits of famous personalities from the world of music, cinema, fashion, literature and the arts.

In parallel with her work in the agencies, Sabine Weiss, passionate about humanist photography, so sentimental, instantaneous and dynamic, turned to black-and-white photography with strong light and shadow play to capture the emotions of the person in front of the camera, and tenderly documented the everyday scenes of the post-World War II Paris.
